How reliable are Renault electric batteries?

lithium-ion battery
Renault has equipped its E‑Tech electric vehicles with lithium‑ion batteries, as they offer the best balance of performance and technical efficiency:
  • extended driving range with high energy density;
  • high charging capacity, with support for high‑power charging;
  • consistent performance in all temperatures, with no memory effect;
  • proven durability with controlled battery ageing over time.

    capacity and driving range
    E-Tech electric - battery’s capacity - Renault
    capacity
    The battery’s capacity is expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh). This should not be confused with the instantaneous power of the electric motor or a charge expressed in kilowatts (kW). The battery's capacity determines the vehicle's range and power.
    E-Tech electric - driving range - Renault
    driving range
    It mainly depends on the battery’s capacity. The greater the capacity the more miles the vehicle can cover. However, other factors such as vehicle weight, driving style and weather conditions affect the electric vehicle’s range.
    chargeability and power
    E-Tech electric - chargeability - Renault
    chargeability
    The main role of the battery is to store and redistribute energy. It determines your electric vehicle’s driving range. The battery’s ability to accept charge is its capacity to absorb the power supplied (kW) quickly regardless of the type of charging.
    E-Tech electric - charging time - Renault
    charging time
    The batteries in our E-Tech vehicles are designed to offer the best balance between stored energy, usage and charging time. Ideal for motorway use and for effective recovery during ultra-fast charging.
    E-Tech electric - outside conditions - Renault
    outside conditions
    The battery is also subject to outside conditions. To control battery consumption and optimise charging, we regulate operating temperatures through our integrated cooling system and by preheating the battery.
    longevity and durability
    E-Tech electric - expertise - Renault
    Renault expertise and quality assurance
    Renault has over 10 years' experience since selling its first electric vehicle: Renault Zoe. This gives us excellent knowledge, analysis and control of battery ageing. Our expertise and our commitment are a guarantee.
    E-Tech electric - battery warranty - Renault
    battery warranty
    Our Renault E-Tech vehicles feature traction batteries guaranteed for 8 years* or 160,000 km*. As with any battery in an electronic device, there is a natural decrease in capacity. The battery is guaranteed to maintain 70% of its capacity over the warranty period.

    battery safety

    For Renault, the safety of our electric vehicles is a priority. Renault is the only manufacturer to have integrated a firefighter into its teams, working in close collaboration with tertiary safety experts to enhance your safety with, for example, two major innovations:
    E-Tech electric - Fireman Access
    Fireman Access
    The Fireman Access gives firefighters direct access to the heart of the battery if it is affected by an external fire, reducing the intervention time to just 5 minutes.
    E-Tech electric - SD switch - Renault
    SD Switch
    During firefighter interventions (excluding fires), the battery can be immediately disconnected from the electrical circuitry via the innovative SD Switch, thereby protecting the firefighters from potential electrocution.

    end-of-life batteries

    Renault applies the principles of the circular economy to the electric car battery by prolonging its first life in the vehicle for as long as possible, giving it a second life whenever feasible before carrying out its recycling.
    collection
    E-Tech electric - collection - Renault
    battery collection
    When a vehicle’s batteries have reached the end of their life, they are collected either through the dealership network or at end-of-life vehicle dismantling centres, after having been removed from the vehicle.
    second life
    E-Tech electric - second life  - Renault
    second life for batteries
    When the battery's remaining capacity is no longer compatible with automotive use, or if its condition permits at the end of the vehicle's life, the battery can be used for less demanding non-automotive applications such as stationary energy storage solutions. Storing electricity is essential to cope with additional demand on the grid during peak consumption periods. These solutions also help to offset the limitations of renewable energy sources that depend on weather fluctuations, such as wind and solar power.
    recycling
    E-Tech electric - recycling - Renault
    battery recycling
    Batteries that can no longer be used are sent to specialised partner facilities, where they are dismantled and recycled in accordance with European regulation*.

    *European regulatory requirements: minimum 65% battery recycling rate from 31/12/2025.
