1898

A break through in safety..

Louis Renaults original small car featured a gear train transmission that was more reliable and less dangerous than the days more conventional chains or belts.

1909

Compressed air starter..

A compressed air starter replaced the cranck which had been responsible for many injuries.

1922

Front wheel brakes..

Renault six cylinder 18CV and 40CV models had brakes on the front wheels and the 40CV could be fitted with Louis Renaults patented mechanical servo-brake for stronger braking action.

1937

Independent front suspension..

The juvaquatre was the first Renault model with independent front suspension for better roadholding and all steel structure for better protection.

1951

The opening of lardy..

The lardy center located near paris set up to handle tests on all future Renault vehicles.this was where the first impact resistance tests were carried out

1954

Accidental studies..

Renault set up a physiology and biomechanics laboratory run by a doctor to help vehicle design teams develop safer cars. from this moment crash tests take on a major role in the design and safety of vehicles.

1962

Disc brakes on small cars..

The R8 model was the first compact car to be fitted with disc brakes on all four wheels, a feature previously reserved for large cars.

1969


The lab..

Renault and psa Peugeot-citroen set up the joint accident analysis and biomechanics laboratory (LAB).

1974

Basic research vehicle..

The brv (basic research vehicle) was developed for studies into passive safety..

1979


The safety cell..

Renault presented vehicle for research into road user and environment protection featuring the concept of non deformable cabin and allowing for pedestrian impact.

1985

ABS..

ABS appeared on the R25.

1993

Protection passengers..

Driver airbag seatbelt pretensioners appears on Clio and R19 .

1995

A safety revolution

The Megane introduced the Renault system for restraint and protection which revolutionized the seat belt by adding a load limiter,  pretensioner and locking reel.

1996

Improving the range

ABS and driver and passenger airbag appeared across the whole Renault range.

1998

Permanent innovation..

The second generation Renault system for restraint and protection appeared with driver and passenger airbags , load limiters , pretensioners and headrests with close up protection.

2000

Safety for all..

Safety for all program . in the meantime the emergency brake assit system was introduced.

2001

The first ever five stars

Renault introduced ESC electronic stability control on laguna II traction control and third generation SRP. Laguna II became the market first car to obtain the five star raiting in Euro NCAP crash tests.

2002

5 stars for Megane and Velsatis..

Megane II and Velsatis  obtained five star Euro NCAP ratings

2003

5 stars for Scenic and Espace..

Scenic and Espace obtained five star Euro NCAP ratings.

2004

Small cars perfect safe..

Five star Euro NCAP crash test ratings were achieved by Megane cabriolet and Modus (the first five star car of its category).

2005

5 stars for Clio..

Clio obtained five star Euro NCAP crash test rating.

2007

Ground breaking

Laguna III obtained a five stae Euro NCAP crash test rating with a record score of 36 out of 37.

2008

top marks for Koleos..

We are very proud to announce that koleos has achived the maximum 5 star Euro NCAP crash test rating this is especially impressive when you considerthat Koleos is one of only four models in its category to achieve maximum score out of the seventeen tested. This is Renault’s 10th car to be awarded 5 Euro NCAP stars.

Fluence safest vehicle in any category..

With a score of 37 out of 37 in its euro NCAP crash tests , Fluence stands out as the safest vehicle in any class ever tested by the independent road safety body. Fluence has safety in its genes it is a fundamental part of the car which was developed to set standards in both active and passive safety. Renault is the only automakerto have secured the five star top rating 11 times and makes safety as priority.

2009

5 stars for New Grand Scenic..

New Grand Scenic has become the 12th model of the Renault range to secure Euro NCAP’s maximum five stars crash test rating , despite the stepping up of the severity of thr independent body evaluation criteria ( side and rair impact , child and adult protection , pedestrian protection , equipment ) at the beginning of 2009
